General Scholarship Process and Timeline

If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, please review the frequently asked questions and the information below to better understand what goes into this opportunity. We currently operate in the greater Benton, Lincoln, and Linn County area and support student-athletes who participate in programs in our communities.

Athletes will identify, coordinate, and complete service hours with an organization(s) of their choosing and complete a number of hours service hours commensurate with the amount of funding being awarded. Successful applicants will submit their completed hours and a reflection including what they did, what they learned, and how it impacted the organization(s) or people involved

 

Generally, we aim to award scholarships at a rate of ~$20-25 per hour of service performed. As an example, a scholarship request of $500 would involved completion of ~20-25 hours of service.

Application Details

The application will ask for the following information in addition to basic contact information for the applicant and a parent/guardian. It is recommended that you review and answer these questions in a document and then copy and paste the responses into the form when they have all been completed.

  • Please describe any prior community service you have participated in including organization, approximate hours, and location.

  • Please describe any current community service you are regularly participating in including organization, approximate hours, and location.

  • What does service mean to you? (~150-250 words)

  • What is the importance of service to both the individual(s) participating and those who are receiving the service? (~150-250 words)

  • What do you hope to take away from your service experiences? (~150-250 words)

  • What organizations/projects are you interested in working with to complete the required hours for this scholarship?

    • If uncertain, provide some ideas or examples on what seems appealing to you. We want to know that you've thought about what might be a good fit or what organizations/projects align with your values.

  • Please describe what you are requesting a scholarship for including the sport you are participating in, the organization it is through, and the specific expenses with dollar amounts it will be used for.

    • Appropriate expenses include but are not limited to participation fees, tournament travel, camps/showcases, equipment, and private lessons.

  • What dollar amount are you requesting for this scholarship?

    • Scholarship amounts depend on our funding, the number of qualified applicants in a cycle, and the needs of the applicant.

  • Is full funding of the amount requested above required for the athlete to participate in the sporting opportunity?

    • Select Yes if the opportunity cannot exist without the full scholarship.

    • Select No if a partial amount of what is being requested will still be meaningful and impactful to the opportunity.​

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where do I have to live to apply for and receive a scholarship?

    • We currently operate in the greater Benton and Linn County area and support student-athletes who participate in programs in our communities. As funding allows, we may broaden our geographical region. If you are unsure if you qualify, please contact us!

  • Is there a minimum age required to apply for a scholarship?

    • That is at the discretion of the family of the athlete applying for funds- we do not have a minimum age. The athlete must be ​able to directly participate in an appropriate service opportunity, which ultimately are chosen by the applicant and their family.

  • When will the scholarship be paid out after being accepted?

    • The scholarship amount will be paid upon completion of the service project/hours. Please contact us with any requests for an exception to this policy. 

  • How much is awarded with a scholarship?​

    • This depends on our funding, the number of qualified applicants in a cycle, and the needs of the applicant. Our goal is to provide an impactful amount with each scholarship we give. ​

  • What can the money be used for?

    • Eligible expenses include but are not limited to participation fees, tournament travel, camps/showcases, equipment, and private lessons. If you are not sure if an expense qualifies, please contact us prior to submission. ​​​​

  • Who and how will the service project/hours be selected?​​

    • That is up to the applicant and their values. We are happy to assist with finding opportunities however the expectation is that the applicant is responsible for coordinating and completing the hours. ​

  • What type of service qualifies for this scholarship opportunity?​

    • Pretty much anything that aligns with your values and the things you care about. If you are unsure if something will qualify, please contact us.

    • ​Some examples are volunteering at an animal shelter, park clean ups, volunteering for a church or other spiritual/religious institution, soup kitchen, Habitat for Humanity, food banks, after school programs, helping with youth sport clinics, tutoring, libraries, hospital/nursing homes, Boys and Girls club programs, services for elderly or disabled (e.g., groceries, yard clean up, dog walking), YMCA programs.
